Chicago in Orlando for Final Mardi Gras Concert

The Mardi Gras celebration at Mardi Gras is drawing to a close this weekend with musical guest Chicago coming to Orlando on Sat. April 17 at 8:30 pm.

One of the most popular and successful American rock bands of all time, Chicago is one of the top ten best-selling U.S. groups ever with Billboard chart albums in five consecutive decades.

Of course, while Chicago brings 30 years worth of hits to the Universal stage, the annual Mardi Gras party wraps up its 2010 run with one more big bead-filled parade and all the usual street performers, fantastic Cajun foods and more.

As Mardi Gras winds down, the excitement continues to build toward the June official grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s sister park, Islands of Adventure.

Concert Weekends Continue at Epcot, Universal Studios

The popular spring music concerts continue at Orlando’s big theme parks this weekend. At Disney’s Epcot, the annual International Flower & Garden Festival offers up Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone as this week’s musical guest.

The headliner for the Flower Power Concert Series at America Gardens Theatre is yet another popular performer from years gone by as the Hermits bring back their sounds from the mid-60s.

The group performs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5:15, 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. and performances are included with regular Epcot admission.

Meanwhile at Universal Studios, Mardi Gras fans can enjoy a double dose of parades and fun. An added Friday night Mardi Gras event features musical guest Sheryl Crow while Flo Rida takes the Mardi Gras stage on Saturday night.

Rock and Rejoice at Disney’s Night of Joy 2010

Ride, rock and rejoice at Walt Disney World in Orlando this Sept. 10-11 when the 2010 edition of Night of Joy returns to the Magic Kingdom theme park.

Walt Disney World has announced the lineups for its popular contemporary Christian music event that’s returning to Magic Kingdom this fall after a brief move to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In over 27 years, the event has played to a combined audience of more than one million people.

The event offers up many of the most popular names and most powerful voices in contemporary Christian rock, pop and gospel. Event hours are 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and while the music is the main attraction of the night, several of the most popular theme park attractions will also remain open during the concerts, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Scheduled headliners for Sept. 10 include Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Casting Crowns, BarlowGirl and Francesca Battistelli plus Night of Joy newcomers Group 1 Crew, Tenth Avenue North and Sidewalk Prophets.

The following night, Sept. 11, musical guests include mercyme, Third Day, Family Force 5, Smokie Norful in addition to first time Night of Joy participants Lecrae and Day of Fire.

Universal Mardi Gras Features Two Weekend Concerts

Time is winding down on the long-running Universal Mardi Gras celebration in Orlando. The weekly party which started back on Feb. 6, continues this weekend with not one but two live concerts. The first is a Mardi Gras bonus night on Friday, April 9 featuring special musical guest Sheryl Crow.

 The second concert, starring Flo Rida is scheduled for the regular Saturday night Mardi Gras party slot on April 10. Both musical celebrations will go hand-in-hand with the usual fun-filled Mardi Gras revelry consisting of Cajun foods, street performers, an epic parade and more.

The final Mardi Gras event of 2010 happens a week later when musical guest Chicago plays at Universal Studios Orlando on Sat. April 17.

The bold and free-spirited Crowe uniquely blends her smooth mix of rock, country and pop into one contemporary mainstream sound that has produced a steady stream of hits and nine Grammy Awards.

Spend Spring Break with the Beach Boys

Spring Break is here and there’s plenty of warm sunshine ahead in Orlando. What better way celebrate than with a little surf music!

Mardi Gras continues at Universal Orlando and this week’s special musical guest features the Beach Boys, live in concert on April 3 at 9:30 pm. Since their debut album in 1961, the group was originally comprised of the Wilson brothers - Brian, Dennis and Carl - plus cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine. Together they combined to create hit after hit with their extraordinary harmonies and popular surf music.

The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and have produced 36 top 40 hits and four Number One singles, including “Good Vibrations.”

Weekend Music Continues in Orlando’s Theme Parks

There is seldom a lack of musical excitement in Orlando and this week is no different as central Florida’s main theme parks all continue on with their own music festivals.

At Universal Orlando, there is plenty of excitement building in anticipation of the grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure. But in the meantime, Universal Studios continues to roll on with its annual Mardi Gras celebration every Saturday until mid-April.

Mardi Gras visitors will enjoy the usual assortment of New Orleans style excitement leading up to a Saturday night performance by musical guest, 3 Doors Down.

At SeaWorld Orlando, the annual Viva La Musica Music Festival also continues this weekend with a special performance by Grupomania on Sat., March 27.  Meanwhile, at Disney’s Epcot, the popular spring Flower and Garden Festival rolls on with weekend Flower Power Concert Series performances from Starship starring Mickey Thomas.

Mardi Gras continues at Universal Studios in Orlando

If you feel the need for beads, it’s not too late to head over to Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando!  The long-running event continues this weekend through April 17, 2010 with the usual Cajun food, street performers, and fun highlighted by an amazing parade and a concert.

This week’s musical guest is 3 Doors Down. The quintessential rock band has achieved huge mainstream success while maintaining its small town Mississippi roots. Best known for the breakthrough hit “Kryptonite,” 3 Doors Down continues the Mardi Gras tradition of great music by hitting the Orlando state at 9:30 pm on Sat., March 27.

Choose Your Special Concert Series Performance This Weekend

There will be music aplenty filling the delightful springtime air throughout Orlando this weekend. All three of Orlando’s major theme parks are offering special concert series performances.

At Disney’s Epcot, you can turn back the clock to the 1960s and 1970s during the Flower Power Concert Series. The series, which is part of the park’s annual International Flower and Garden Festival, takes place under the skies of the open-air American Gardens Theatre. This weekend’s performances - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 5:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m. & 7:45 p.m. - feature Paul Revere and The Raiders.

At nearby Universal Studios Florida, the extended Mardi Gras celebration continues on Saturday with a fun filled Mardi Gras parade and concert at 8:30 featuring Aretha Franklin.

Meanwhile, at SeaWorld Orlando, Viva La Musica takes place Saturday afternoon with an appearance by musical guest Oscar D’Leon at 4 p.m.

 

 

Akon brings his show to Universal Mardi Gras this week

The party goes on and on at Universal Studios Florida as the popular Mardi Gras celebration continues through mid-April. This week’s musical guest is Akon, the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter and one of the music industry’s fastest-rising stars.

 

Akon’s special mix of hip-hop, R&B and rap includes a number of chart-topping hits like Lonely, I Wanna Love You, Don’t Matter and Dangerous. He’s the first artist to accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.

 

A frequent guest on TV’s American Idol, Akon brings his act to Universal’s Mardi Gras at 8:30 pm on March 6, 2010.

Epcot Flower & Garden Fest begins this week

Spring is in the air as the annual Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival kicks off at Disney World on March 3 and runs thru May 16, 2010,

This year’s event features more than 100 colorful and fun topiaries ranging from a 14-foot tall Goofy fishing to Lion King characters and, of course, Mickey and Minnie. Enjoy millions of blooms, hundreds of butterflies in the butterfly garden, and more. There’s also experts ready to provide gardening tips and demonstrations, and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the festival, you can also enjoy the Flower Power Concert Series featuring music from the 1960s and 1970s.
